Interesting Facts About Alaska

- Alaska has more coastline then the rest of the United States combined.

- There are more then three million lakes in Alaska. Lake Illiamna in Southwest Alaska is the second largest fresh water lake in the U.S.

- Halibut live on the bottom of the ocean floor off Alaska's coast and can weigh over 400 pounds.

- The average water temperature in South Central Alaska's waters is around 43 Degrees Farenheit.

- Visibility is often the best in the winter when there is less particulate matter in the water.

- Alaska has an estimated 100,000 glaciers which cover almost five percent of the state. There are more active glaciers in Alaska than in the rest of the inhabited world.
